I am a self-taught artist from Thatcham, Berkshire, married and endlessly inspired by the ever-changing beauty of the sea and coastline. Having left school at 15, I went to work in an office; however, after two years of sufferance in heels and skirts, I decided that working with horses would be the perfect way of life for me. During my 20 years of working with many different kinds of equines, from riding school ponies to racehorses, I developed a deep appreciation for movement, light, and atmosphere — elements that now flow naturally into my seascape artwork. My love for the natural world shines through in every piece I create.
As a young girl, I used to watch and admire my father's paintings in a variety of different mediums. Long after my father had passed on, and back to working in an office, I decided that I’d have a go at this "hobby" — it looks easy! To this day, I’m still learning and discovering new techniques by watching and learning from amazing artists such as Bonnie Snowdon, Mike Sibley and Aron Gadd. What began as a hobby has now turned into a profession, and I enjoy every minute of it.
I work principally from photographs, taken either on location or at my studio here in Thatcham. I’m also very happy to work from your own photographs, though they do need to be clear and taken from a strong composition and angle — for example, close-up snapshots without depth or perspective are not ideal reference material.
